PROGRAMS

Transforming Lives, One Individual at a Time.

Our Mission:  We empower people with vision loss or blindness by providing support, education, and training in assistive technology and independent living skills.

Mobile Technology Program- iPhone & iPad Training Program

Our Mobile Technology program will teach you how to functionally use iPhones and iPads using the iOS built in accessibility features such as low vision modifications, to adjust text size and contrast, and/or the VoiceOver feature.  With VoiceOver—a gesture-based screen reader—you can use iPhone even if you can’t see the screen. VoiceOver gives audible descriptions of what’s on your screen—from battery level, to who’s calling, to which app your finger is on. You can also adjust the speaking rate and pitch to suit your needs. Apps for daily living, such as Seeing AI talking camera for the blind, Be my Eyes and others are explored.

Learning Lab Program

The Learning Lab uses the Windows platform, and will teach you how to access a personal computer using Freedom Scientific software programs, Zoom Text, which magnifies the screen, Job Access with Speech (JAWS), an accessible screen reader, and Fusion, which combines both features.  You will learn how to navigate the PC to access the start menu, navigate the icons of the desktop, type, save, and edit a word document, access folder and file locations, perform email functions, surf the web, all using the Fusion Program.  Typing skills are required for participating in the Learning Lab  If you are in need of learning typing skills, please contact us at Vision Loss Alliance of New Jersey.

Assistive Technologies

We provide education and training in the use of various forms of assistive technologies that are available to support you in your daily life and in accessing printed materials.  These devices include:  electronic magnification devices, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) devices, and SMART Technology, which we feature throughout our various in-person and virtual programs.
